When to change it
Change the oil filter every time you change the engine oil. An old filter still holds the dirt from the last interval, and fresh oil pushed through it picks some of that up again.
Use the interval in your X50’s service book. Many service books list a shorter schedule for severe conditions: frequent short trips, stop-go traffic and high temperatures. That describes a lot of city driving in Malaysia, so check which schedule applies to you.
Fitting tips
- Lightly oil the new filter’s rubber seal before fitting.
- Tighten by hand as the instructions on the filter say; don’t over-tighten with a tool.
- Run the engine, then check for leaks around the filter and recheck the oil level.
